Environmental sustainability is defined as responsible interaction with the environment to avoid depletion or degradation of natural resources and allow for long term environmental quality. This is a great way to ensure that the needs of the present generation is met without destroying the needs of the future generations.
There are many ways in which one an practice environment al sustainability such as:
- Avoiding the use of non renewable resources and shifting towards renewable resources
- Protecting the ecosystem by adopting sustainable habits.
- Avoiding excess pollution
Making economic decision based on long term consequences.
Environment sustainability deals with so many important issues, it ensures long term health of the ecosystem which is not only concerned with the environment but also with future economic and social needs. We have to be more careful while making our decisions by considering its impact on the coming generations.
By practicing sustainable ways in our day to day life can help in reducing global warming which in turns prevent water shortage, excessive heat and other environmental issues.
While the common man plays a very important role in being sustainable, Government policies can also help in the same. Mandatory tax on production of carbon for e.g. Burning fossil fuels, this will make sure the user pay the social cost along with the private cost. Government can also put ban on harmful emissions caused by cars and industries. Careful decision should be implemented by keeping the environment as the main concern.
When all these issues are taken into consideration by all means, we could live in a system where there is a healthy environment, economic well being and also social fulfilment.
