Over the span of three months with Tarumitra, I was provided with an opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the wonder material ‘plastic’. From making and inspiring others to make ecobricks to shifting the paradigm of our perceptions of plastic waste, I realized the need for ecological sensitivity to be highlighted. While being thankful to the plastic for the numerous facets of life, I was made aware of the repercussions and price we have been and are paying.
Learning about EPR and PROs in India, familiarizing myself from grassroots initiatives to government commitments, preparing lessons, conducting a survey, and of course writing blogs, all of it has been extremely informative.
Averting the downstream costs of pollution has become more essential than ever, and the onus is on us to work towards the future we strive for. Along with judicial and conscious use of resources, initiatives taken up individually to tackle the environmental catastrophe of increasing plastic waste can inspire others too. It is important to remind ourselves that we are not alone in this. The need to create a circular materials management system and implementation of the 3 (or 7 or 9) Rs of sustainability can never be stressed enough. The stark trail of waste demands to be contained, and I am pleased to have been given the chance to use my newly discovered passion of writing to create awareness about the same.
Certainly, I do not wish to stop here; by propagation and initiation, I aspire to toil in this journey towards an envisioned future.
