At the same time it is also collective community violation of laws
As burning of such waste is prohibited as per SWM Rules 2016 & PWM Rules 2016.

Campaign History
In March 2021, as a part of internship on solid waste management these interns from various colleges were being equipped with the government's policies on solid waste management.
Piles for Holikadahan were already being collected at various sites in Patna.
As they observed materials being collected to be torched with Holikadahan.
Plastic, Tyres, Furniture Foam, Artificial Leather and many more....
These items which adds poisonous chemicals in our breathing air.
Dioxins
Cause cancer, reproductive and developmental problems, damage to the immune system, and can interfere with hormones.
Furans
skin toxicity, immunotoxicity, neurotoxicity, negative effects on reproduction, teratogenicity, endocrine disruption, and a predisposition to cancer
Sulphur Dioxide
severe irritant to the respiratory tract, eyes, mucous membranes, and skin. High exposure can cause bronchial inflammation, with possible airway obstruction.
Carbon Monoxide
Prevents the blood system from effectively carrying oxygen around the body, specifically to vital organs such as the heart and brain. Can cause death from lack of oxygen to the brain
VOCs
Breathing VOCs can irritate the eyes, nose and throat, can cause difficulty breathing and nausea, and can damage the central nervous system as well as other organs. Some VOCs can cause cancer
PCBs
Causes, liver cancer, gall bladder cancer, biliary tract cancer, gastrointestinal tract cancer, and brain cancer, and may be linked to breast cancer
Moreover as per Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 & Plastic waste Management Rules 2016 burning of waste in open environment is strictly prohibited.
These interns raised concern over collective social violation of policy and its environmental impact.
They visited offices of various concerned departments to discuss the issues.
Such as DM Office, BSPCB office Principal Secretary MoEFCC office and Patna Municipal Commissioner's office
Well, we visited pretty late.
It was already 26th of March 2021 and Holikadahan was on 28th March 2021
There was not much time to do so many things
However Additional Commissioner of PMC promissed to to provide all required support.
As we were a small team and we were short of time too,
These interns decided to segregate harmful materials from at least one spot (Ramnagri More)
They called their friends to help.

We also received help from kids of local community
Patna Municipal Corporation sent a truck with few staff members
They loaded all segregated items
Hopefully most of the items must have been recycled by now
